Located in western Massachusetts, the Pioneer Valley is home to a number of contiguous municipalities, each providing ample activities for visitors. Hampshire County is often referred to as the Five College Area, since the region is home to the University of Massachusetts Amherst, as well as Hampshire, Amherst, Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges. In Amherst, tour the homestead of famous American author Emily Dickinson at the Emily Dickinson Museum. Outdoor recreation abounds in the Pioneer Valley and Charlemont boasts whitewater rafting, kayaking and hiking opportunities, as well as downhill skiing at the Berkshire East Ski Resort. J.A. Skinner State Park in Hadley ... attracts the adventurous as it is located atop Mount Holyoke and is an ideal place to picnic and hike.

Pioneer Valley administrators had first brought their concerns about the player’s eligibility to the attention of the MIAA last month. In early conversations and written correspondence school officials admitted the player did not meet eligibility requirements. The ineligibility was confirmed by the MIAA executive director who requested that the required letter of forfeiture be written to PVRS opponents. PVRS appealed the executive director’s decision to the MIAA Board of Directors, which denied the appeal by a vote of 9 to 3.

The Pioneer Valley Connect is led by a Steering Committee with representatives from each of the three counties (Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden). Appointed members represent varying fields including health care, education, economic development, manufacturing and small business.

Pioneer Valley supported 20 disadvantaged, minority high school students who are interested in nursing careers, tutoring them in math, science and English. The UMass Amherst School of Nursing sponsors Nursing Clubs for interested students.
