Pilotwings 64 is a video game for the Nintendo 64, released in 1996, along with the launch of the console. It was one of two launch titles for the Nintendo 64, the other being Super Mario 64. It is a sequel to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System game Pilotwings, which was ... a launch title for its respective game system.

Not many games could be described as both the most relaxing and frustrating experiences available-- but Pilotwings 64 fits the bill perfectly. At times, it'll have you swearing as if you have a particularly nasty case of Tourette's Syndrome; but at the same time, no other game has so perfectly recreated the sensation of flight.

Pilotwings 64 is a cartoony flight sim that ... delivers a fascinatingly compulsive, authentic-feeling flight experience. Multiple, varied missions flying hanglider, gyro-copter or jet pack present a stiff challenge with a fair learning curve, and bonus games (including the relaxing, photo-snapping birdman) keep the game fresh even after hours of play.

The characters in Pilotwings 64 were designed by Nintendo, not developer Paradigm. "They just turned up one day and we immediately started to implement them in the game." said Paradigm's vice president Dave Gatchell in an interview with UK games magazine Edge.

Star Fox 64 is one update of a SNES classic that actually improves upon the original. A 3D 3rd person space-ship based shooter, Star Fox arms the player with a laser, a lock-on cannon and some smart bombs, then points them toward literally thousands of enemies and stands back to watch the fireworks. The key to Star Fox's insane fun level is the interaction between the player's three wing men who banter away happily while aiding the player in purging the galaxy. The graphical stylings are of note as well, providing some absolutely eye popping visuals of hundred-ship dogfights.

The standard Nintendo 64 was dark gray, nearly black. A Jungle Green color was first available with the Donkey Kong 64 bundle. The Funtastic Series used brightly-colored translucent plastic. Nintendo released a banana-like Nintendo 64 controller for the debut of Donkey Kong 64 in the United States. The Millennium 2000 controller, available exclusively as part of a Nintendo Power promotional contest, was a special silver controller in the United States. It is the only official Nintendo 64 controller to feature all black buttons.
