Pilates: Bodies

Why would so many Pilates teachers be intuitives? Choose to be? Because the journey into the body for them is the way to their own development. If you've gone that far down and come back up with something, you have a gift to share. The intuitive will always keep meditating, digging in all sorts of ways for more and more grounding. You won't make a good Pilates teacher if you aren't in it because you need to be doing it for yourself as well as to help others.

Pilates is a body conditioning routine that seeks to build flexibility, strength, endurance, and coordination without adding muscle bulk. In addition, pilates increases circulation and helps to sculpt the body and strengthen the body's "core" or "powerhouse" (torso). People who do pilates regularly feel they have better posture, are less prone to injury, and experience better overall health.

Pilates and yoga share similar goals, with both systems believing in individual progress in a non-competitive arena, with emphasis on stretching as well as strengthening of muscles. However, the Pilates system works the body as a whole, co-ordinating the upper and lower musculature with the bodys centre. This dramatically improves strength, flexibility, posture and co-ordination.
