Pikmin: Enemies
built 262 days ago
Pikmin screenshot Pikmin are grown by taking pellets or dead enemies back to the ship area of each level. Pellets may be huge and require 10 Pikmin to carry them, or they may be tiny and only need one. Fighting enemies is usually a simple case of running towards them and thrusting your Pikmin towards them randomly. Occasionally you may wish to employ strategies such as throwing Pikmin on their back but outside of a couple of boss fights, combat isn't something to worry about. What about knocking down walls or building bridges? Well once again it's just a case of hurling your Pikmin at the problem.
In gameplay terms, Pikmin features resource gathering to increase you number of Pikmin (collecting tablets, gathering up beaten enemies etc), and using your 'troops' to conquer those enemies. Their isn't a great deal of complicated strategy in this.
With their heads sporting leaves, buds and flowers, the alien Pikmin might be mistaken for garden plants. But this is one hyperactive garden club. A single whistle mobilizes a multitude of Pikmin to gather treasure, fight enemies and solve puzzles.
You can toss Pikmin onto your enemies, or you can swarm the enemies with your Pikmin by using your C-Stick. The C-Stick is a good option if you're surprised or if an enemy is coming at you fast, but if you have time, always toss your Pikmin at the enemy first. A tossed Pikmin will always do more damage than a swarming Pikmin. A good habit to get into is to toss several Pikmin onto an enemy, then swarm that enemy while the tossed Pikmin are doing their damage. It is ... another good habit to note the patterns of your enemies. As you get to more difficult enemies, they have a pattern.

Almost all other creatures will eat Pikmin if given the chance. At the top of this list is the Bulborb, the natural enemy of the Pikmin. Large Bulborbs can devour a dozen Pikmin in just a few seconds, which can prove devastating to an ill-planned expedition. The situation Pikmin encounter when dealing with local wildlife is so dire that it is in fact easier to number the creatures which do not eat them. Some enemies take some time devouring or digesting Pikmin, so if the enemy is killed quickly enough, the player might save those Pikmin from death.

The sounds of Pikmin are functional with a few nice touches. The squeaking of the Pikmin themselves are nice, and the shambling noises of the enemies lend a comical air to them. At places the soundtrack cuts to a menacing score, but usually simple, easy-on-the-ear background music plays.
