On June 8, 1994, Pierce Brosnan was unveiled at a huge press conference in London as the 5th 007. His first Bond film, GoldenEye, grossed over $350 million worldwide, more than any other Bond film to that point. His 2nd Bond film, 1997's Tomorrow Never Dies, grossed more money in the US than GoldenEye. His 3rd Bond film, 1999's The World is Not Enough, had the largest opening weekend in James Bond and MGM studio history. It is no surprise, then, that Brosnan was able to set up his company Irish Dreamtime, in the offices of MGM, developing projects that allow him to remain truly challenged as an actor.

Shortly after, the media began questioning whether or not Pierce Brosnan would reprise the role for a fifth and final time. Brosnan kept in mind that aficionados and critics both were unhappy with Moore playing the role well into his 50s, but he received popular support from both critics and the franchise fan base for a fifth. For this reason, he remained enthusiastic about reprising his role after his initial contract expired, despite earlier reservations about doing so. Throughout 2004, Brosnan was rumored numerous times to have been "fired" from the role to make way for a new and younger actor. This was denied by MGM, EON Productions, and even Brosnan himself. In October 2004... Brosnan had been quoted as saying "it's absolutely over" and that he considered himself fired from the role. Although Brosnan had been rumoured frequently as still being in the running to play 007, he had denied it several times and in February 2005 posted on his website that he was finished with the role.

Following Evelyn, Brosnan returned to romantic comedy with Laws Of Attraction, which saw him as a divorce lawyer competing with Julianne Moore. Having got drunk and woken up beside each other, their rivalry is further fuelled, particularly when they travel to Ireland to do battle over a country estate. When they get drunk again, and this time wake to find themselves wearing wedding rings, their confusion is immense. Naturally, given the main actors' evident looks and talents, they brought extreme charisma to the screen, but still the final product was no classic.
