1. The Gossip
   Although they briefly toured the U.S. earlier this summer as a part of the True Colors Tour, The Gossip will be heading back home for a short string of dates. Right now the band is hard at work on a tour of Europe, and will remain there until mid September finishing up gigs. Panther and The Long Blondes will be playing alongside Beth's bunch once they hit states side.
2. The Gossip -- Stories
   Many do-it-yourself gossip bloggers are happy to let TMZ.com vet the stories. They aren't interested in finding the scandals, just talking about them. Trent Vanegas cheerfully admits that his popular site, PinkIstheNewBlog.com, is more an aggregator of existing celebrity images than a news site. But these images take on another life when spiced up by Vanegas' mocking observations, pointing out details usually overlooked: a stain on a dress, a mysterious bulge, an exposed surgical scar. For Vanegas, 31, who recently relocated from Detroit to Los Angeles, the juicy details always trump the big picture.
3. Kim Novak -- Columbia Pictures
   Harry Cohn, the boss at Columbia, had publicly announced that he was going to manufacture a replacement for Rita Hayworth, and apparently decided that Kim was the best candidate. The full weight of Columbia's expertise was placed behind Kim. She was given a new Christian name to avoid being seen as a rival to Marilyn Monroe. The publicity department persuaded numerous magazines to include articles about Kim and to feature her on their front covers. Hundreds of glamorous photographs were taken of her, and what is striking fifty years later is the high quality of so many of them. Care was taken in choosing roles for Kim which gave her prominence without stretching her acting too much.
4. Rita Hayworth -- Columbia Pictures
   Rita Hayworth was born Margarita Carmen Cansino, into a family of multiple generations of Spanish dancers. Her father, Eduardo, trained her from an early age, and she performed onstage as a dancer as young as eight years old. Rita Hayworth was said to look very mature and was picked up by Fox Pictures in 1935 for Dante's Inferno. She appeared in numerous films as a dancer, tempering her Latin looks with plastic surgery and electrolysis because she felt it would enhance her success in Hollywood.
5. Rani Mukherjee -- Bollywoods
   Bollywood star Rani Mukherjee is all set to marry film maker Aditya Chopra, son of Yash Raj Chopra. A commitment ceremony or "Roka" was held at the Chopra bungalow Monday in Bombay.
6. Karel Reisz -- Work
   In a distinguished career, Tom Rand has been nominated for an Oscar and BAFTA for his costume designs for A FRENCH LIEUTENANT’S WOMAN directed by Karel Reisz. Other films include THE DUELLISTS directed by Ridley Scott; The SHOOTING PARTY, the last film to star James Mason; ELENI directed by Peter Yates, THE POWER OF ONE and YOUNG TOSCANINI starring Elizabeth Taylor and Phillipe Noiret and directed by Franco Zeffirelli. More recent films include THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO directed by Kevin Reynolds and UN PONT ENTRE DEUX RIVES directed by Gerard Depardieu. West End theatre credits include HOLIDAY directed by Lindsay Anderson, WHAT THE BUTLER SAW, ALWAYS, Edward Albee’s THREE TALL WOMEN starring Maggie Smith, A LETTER OF RESIGNATION. At Manchester Royal Exchange he has designed sets and costumes for AN IDEAL HUSBAND, MOONSTONE and THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST. He has frequently worked with Harold Pinter, designing costumes for THE HOTHOUSE, TWELVE ANGRY MEN, TAKING SIDES and the world premier of ASHES TO ASHES as well as the sets and costumes for A KIND OF ALASKA directed by Karel Reisz and THE BIRTHDAY PARTY, THE LOVER and THE COLLECTION.
7. Hedda Hopper -- Columnist Hedda Hopper
   From All Movie Guide: American actress and gossip columnist Hedda Hopper was born Elda Furry, but used the last name of her then-husband, Broadway star DeWolf Hopper, when she launched her movie career in 1915. Never a major star in silent films, Hedda was a competent character actress specializing in "best friend" and "other woman" roles. When she divorced DeWolf Hopper, Hedda found that she had to take any roles that came her way in order to support herself and her son DeWolf Jr. (who later became a film and TV actor under the name William Hopper). Her career running smoothly if not remarkably by 1932, Ms. Hopper decided to branch out into politics, running for the Los Angeles city council; she lost and returned to movies, where good roles were becoming scarce. Practically unemployed in 1936, Hedda took a job on a Hollywood radio station, dispensing news and gossip about the film capital. Impressed by Hedda's chatty manner and seemingly bottomless reserve of "dirt" on her fellow actors (sometimes gleaned from her own on-set experiences, sometimes mere wild-card speculations), the Esquire news syndicate offered Ms. Hopper her own column, one that would potentially rival the Hearst syndicate columnist Louella Parsons.
8. Brett Ratner -- Hugh Hefner
   Brett Ratner is set to direct "Playboy," the Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment film about the life of Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner. Brian Grazer is producing, and John Hoffman is writing the screenplay.
9. Rock Hudson -- Phyllis Gates
   LOS ANGELES -- Phyllis Gates, the onetime talent agency secretary who married Hollywood heartthrob Rock Hudson in the 1950s and later insisted that she married him out of love and not to cover up his homosexuality, has died. She was 80.
10. Justin Timberlake -- Jessica Biel
    After Shooting his video with Madonna and hanging out with his girlfriend Jessica Biel, Justin Timberlake heads to NYC to give his restaurant Southern Hospitality a visit and celebrate the debut of his Pepsi ad that was released during the Superbowl. more »
