Two members of the Physics Department have been honored with major awards by the American Physical Society. Bob Meyer, Professor of Physics, has been chosen as the recipient of this year's Oliver E. Buckley Prize for Condensed Matter Physics, and Al Redfield, Professor of Physics, has been awarded the Biological Physics prize by the APS.

The Physics & Astronomy Department graduation ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 12, at 1:30 p.m. at Regener Hall. This year’s speaker is David Wolfe, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus, Dept. of Physics and Astronomy at UNM. A reception will precede the ceremony at 12:30 p.m.... in Regener Hall.

Nuclear physics is the study of nuclear matter in its many states and the interactions of other nucleons and sub-atomic particles with them. This ranges from low-energy searches for dark matter and neutrino physics to high energy electron scattering off of nuclear targets. The Duke physics department is the host of the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL) at which researches from Duke, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State University work together. TUNL hosts several accelerators for nuclear astrophysics and a high intensity gamma-ray source which utilizes the Duke free electron laser. Xidex's academic collaborators include Dr. Keith Stevenson in The University of Texas at Austin's Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Dr. John Markert in UT Austin's Department of Physics. Scanservice Corporation, a leading SEM equipment sales, installation and service company based in Tustin, California, will assist by testing Xidex's emitters in a commercial SEM. International SEMATECH, whose member companies make up 50 percent of the worldwide chip market, has offered to facilitate working relationships between Xidex and the leading SEM and TEM suppliers. Dr. David Joy, Distinguished Scientist in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, The University of Tennessee at Knoxville will provide consulting support related to emitter design and interpretation of test results.

The mission of the Department of Physics at Weber State University is to provide high-quality instruction in physics at the undergraduate level.
