The Department of Philosophy is an internationally distinguished community of scholars and students. The faculty aspires to advance philosophical knowledge while providing outstanding educational opportunities to both undergraduate and graduate students. Students may earn the B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in philosophy.

The Philosophy Department is a member of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgia. In addition to a full undergraduate program leading to an A.B., we offer both a terminal M.A. and Ph.D. The department ... participates in three interdisciplinary programs, is home to the journal Ethics and the Environment, and conducts an active colloquium series.

Learning Objectives and Expected Outcomes: Graduates of the Department of Philosophy acquire considerable skills in abstract thinking, analysis, and critical writing (constructing and critiquing arguments). Because of these skills, philosophical training is invaluable in almost any area of life. Recent graduates have been successful in software development, financial planning, journalism, teaching, and aviation. A few go on to graduate school and become professional philosophers.

The Department of Philosophy offers both a Major and a Minor in Philosophy. The Department counts 21 full-time faculty members working in a variety of specialties. It has over 80 majors and over 50 minors.

The University of Wisconsin–Madison Department of Philosophy is located in Helen C. White Hall, right on the shore of beautiful Lake Mendota and at the heart of the university campus. The Department of Philosophy was founded in 1983. It offers the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts, is a participant in the STS Ph.D Program, and is a lead department in the development of ASPECT, a new interdisiplinary Ph.D. Program planned for the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.
