Which means that the Philippines' comparative advantage - the low wage rates earned by those graduates - is not likely to go away. According to the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries of the Philippines, salaries for production mangers range from $1000-1500 per month and for production supervisors $450-700. Well-qualified customer service representatives (CSRs) in the many call centers around Manila earn about $200-300 a month; the current estimate is that it costs about 1/6 per seat what it does in the states. And stateside companies who have outsourced here are reportedly thrilled by the quality of the customer service compared to what was being delivered at their previous call centers in the Southern United States (see Globalization Revisited for further commentary).
Young Moro Leaders Group USIP's Philippine Facilitation Project, created to help end a decades-long conflict between the government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), a Muslim insurgent group operating in the southern island of Mindanao, ended on June 30, 2007. Acting on a mid-2003 request from the U.S. State Department, USIP worked with Philippine officials, MILF leaders and civil society to further efforts to create an “equitable and durable peace agreement” to foster reconciliation and stability in the Philippines and surrounding areas of Southeast Asia.

On Luzon the Sierra Madre mountains form the longest range of the Philippines, extending along the island’s eastern, or Pacific, coast. The parallel ranges of the Cordillera Central, to the west about 80 km (50 mi) across the Cagayan River Valley, contain Luzon’s highest peak, Mount Pulog, at 2,930 (9,613 ft). Near this peak, mountainside rice terraces have been cultivated for hundreds of years. Farther south the important rice-growing region of the Central Luzon Valley, well irrigated by numerous rivers, extends from Lingayen Gulf to Manila Bay. The rugged Zambales Mountains, containing Mount Pinatubo (1,780 m/5,840 ft), form the valley’s western boundary, leading south to the Bataan Peninsula, the sheltering landmass for Manila Bay. Luzon becomes narrow at its southern end, curving to the southeast in a long, mountainous extension called the Bicol Peninsula.

Due to its close proximity as a neighboring Southeast Asian nation, Indonesian (and some other Malay variants) is ... spoken in the Philippines, particularly southern regions. As with Filipino, the Indonesian and Malay languages are also members of the Malayo-Polynesian language branch of the Austronesian language family and represent major languages of Southeast Asia.
