For many years the stadium had been considered the worst venue in the league. After financing packages were completed in 2000, construction began in April of 2001. In June 2002, Lincoln Financial Group, a financial services firm that has its headquarters in downtown Philadelphia, agreed to pay $139.6 million for the naming rights.

The Philadelphia Eagles began play in 1924 as the Frankford (Pennsylvania) Yellow Jackets. Owners Bert Bell and Lud Wray moved the team to Philadelphia in 1933 and changed its name to the Eagles after the symbol of the National Recovery Administration, which had been created as part of the New Deal. The Eagles captured three National Football League (NFL) titles from 1948 to 1960, earning consecutive crowns in 1948 and 1949 under head coach Earle “Greasy” Neale. The 2005-2006 Philadelphia Eagles season got off to a great start and they looked poised to return to the SuperBowl, but team drama and egos have gotten in the way with Terrell Owens leading the way. Sure, he is the best receiver in the league, but if his records mean more than the team winning, then he doesn't need to play for the Eagles. Since his outburst the team has lost 3 straight games and is slowly fading in the new and improved NFC Eastern division. The Philadelphia Eagles roster is loaded with talent and their schedule seems favorable, but the Philadelphia Eagles football season may be done. Their history as a team is one of ups and downs like many teams in the NFL, but recently the Eagles has been a proven winner and I'm sure once the Terrell Owens situation is cleared up, they will return to their old ways. Lincold Financial Field (the Eagles football field) would love to host more playoff games in January.
