Petfinder.com is an online, searchable database of animals that need permanent homes. A directory of over 10,500 animal shelters and adoption organizations across the USA, Canada and Mexico, the organization's technology helps users search adoptable pets in their area that fit their family's individual needs and preferences. In addition, Petfinder.com offers a wealth of knowledge about how to select the most compatible pet for your home and how to raise and care for an animal. Petfinder.com is free to use. Animal shelters and placement groups can register to join Petfinder.com online and can start entering pets the same day.
PetCare Pet Insurance PETCO's online adoption partner, Petfinder.com was the first site of its kind and is today the largest single force introducing homeless pets with new families. Launched in 1995, Petfinder's goal is to increase public awareness of the availability of high-quality adoptable pets and the overall effectiveness of pet adoption programs across North America to the extent that the euthanasia of adoptable pets is eliminated.

Petfinder.com has articles on pet training, choosing a new dog, and the cost of pet ownership. The Fun Stuff section and Kid’s Page help promote adoption through interactive games and e-mails for friends and family. Each month a special pet type is featured for adoption, complete with photos, stories and history of the animal.
Thanks to Betsy and Jared Saul of Pittstown, N.J., founders of Petfinder.com, these animals have a face and a voice. The matchmakers have been responsible for more than 7 million pet adoptions in the past decade.
The www.Petfinder.com celebration debuted today at approximately 9:45 AM on the Today Show with an interview with Betsy Saul, www.Petfinder.com president and co-founder. Ms. Saul helped The Today Show introduce each dog to her new owner, decorated with a red gift bow attached to her leash. Each child recently turned 10 years old and believed they would be testing toys on the set of the Today Show. Instead they were surprised with the ultimate birthday present -- the dog they had long begged their parents for.
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Petfinder.com served a vital role in reuniting displaced residents with the pets they were forced to leave behind. Animal welfare groups converged on the city of New Orleans, the flooded parishes, and the Gulf Coast to save hundreds of abandoned pets. As a voluntary project Petfinder.com created the Animal Emergency Rescue Network, where over 17,000 (?) pets were eventually posted. Rehoming has gone on for over two years following the disaster.
