Peter Ustinov was the President of the World Federalist Movement from 1991 to 2004, the time of his death. WFM is a global NGO that promotes the concept of one world government. WFM wish to lobby those in powerful positions to establish a unified human government based on democracy and civil society. The United Nations and other world agencies would become the institutions of a World Federation. The UN would be the federal government and nation states would become like provinces.

Sir Peter hosted scores of international television specials and benefit concerts for UNICEF, always artfully blending entertainment and education to bring worldwide attention to the issues facing the world’s children. He did it with humour and aplomb. Hosting his first gala, at Paris’ Odeon Theatre in 1969, he didn’t miss a beat when a Polish National Ballet dancer portraying a mountaineer accidentally chopped his microphone cord. Over the years Ustinov could be found raising money for charities or aiding children in Third World countries. His work garnered him the UNICEF medal for distinguished services.

In UNICEF- Mission kam Ustinov 2002 nach Berlin, um sich erstmalig den Kreis der United Buddy Bears, die für eine friedlichere Welt zwischen Nationen, Kulturen und Religionen werben, anzusehen. Ustinov engagierte sich dafür, dass in diesem Kreis von rund 140 Ländern auch Irak vertreten war. 2003 eröffnete er als Schirmherr die zweite Ausstellung der United Buddy Bears in Berlin.
