Peter Tork Peter Tork is a part of American pop culture history. He was in the Monkees, a made for TV band, decades before American Idol was even a gleam in Simon Cowell's eye. But Tork was ... a real musician, jamming with artists as diverse as folk/blues guru Dave Van Ronk and psychedelic rock god Jimi Hendrix.

Peter Tork Unlike fellow Monkees Micky Dolenz and Davy Jones, Peter Tork was an actual musician before TV executives held casting calls and assembled the sitcom band. He was not a particularly successful musician before the Monkees, but he had performed folk music in coffee shops and occasional night clubs, and was briefly with Stephen Stills in a band called Buffalo Fish, which later evolved into Buffalo Springfield.

The Monkees star Peter Tork has blasted music mogul Jann Wenner for keeping the Daydream Believer hitmakers out of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Tork claims the respected Rolling Stone magazine editor and publisher has the power to veto acts that merit induction into the Cleveland musical museum - and he hates The Monkees.

PTsgirl Purple Haze - Peter Tork/Monkees Peter Tork, Michael Nesmith, Davy Jones and Micky Dolenz became part of the teen idol craze during the 1960's. The Monkees television show continued for two seasons (1966-1968). During the second season, their television audience began to wander. The Monkees really started to fall apart after the release and failure of their movie HEAD. When he had the chance, Peter quit The Monkees. This was sometime after the taping of the 33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee TV special for NBC.

Peter Tork was born April 1, 1941 in Belfast, Ireland. His father Henry Boogerbard Tork was a potato farmer and his mother Felicia Snerdnurgler Tork was a hairstylist and exotic dancer. The Tork family moved to the United States in 1946 and settled in Washington, D.C.
