Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up is a play written by Scottish novelist and playwright J. M. Barrie (1860รข€“1937), and first presented on the stage at the Duke of York's Theatre on 27th December 1904. In 1911, Barrie adapted the play into a book, Peter Pan and Wendy. It is a story of a mischievous little boy who spends his never-ending childhood adventuring on the island of Neverland as leader of the Lost Boys. The story features some fantastical elements, one of them being that Peter has the ability to fly, and his friends include a fairy named Tinker Bell. In addition, a crocodile that has swallowed a ticking clock stalks the pirate leader, Captain Hook.

Peter Pan is the mischievous hero of J.M. Barrie's 1904 play Peter Pan. Peter is "the boy who never grew up," a fantastical figure who visits the bedroom of the Darling children (Wendy, John and Michael) and flies them away to Neverland. There the children meet Peter's loyal troupe, the lost boys, and have adventures and battles with the nefarious Captain Hook. The character of Peter went through several versions: he first appeared in the Barrie's 1902 book The Little White Bird, which Barrie then expanded upon to create his hugely successful 1904 play. Barrie published the story as prose in 1911 under the title of Peter and Wendy.

After the Shadows split in 1968, Peter Pan had to record without his band. Peter had already become used to not having his Shadows with him in recording sessions, and was able to record in any setting. Although many fans, such as John Lennon, had in the early 60s regretted Peter trying out songs which were not strictly in the rock n roll area, this process of slowly getting used to recording with the Shadows as the "rock group", while at other times singing with other musicians, without a doubt is at least partly responsible for Peter becoming what he has become.

Peter Pan, his fellow characters, and the setting of Neverland have appeared in many works since the original books and play by J. M. Barrie. The earliest were the stage productions of the play, and an adaptation to silent film, done with Barrie's involvement and personal approval. Later works were authorized by the Great Ormond Street Hospital, to which Barrie gave the rights to the Peter Pan works; these include adaptations of the main story in both animated and live-action films, musical stage productions, and a sequel novel. In addition, there have been numerous uses of Barrie's characters, settings, and storylines which challenged or took advantage of the changing copyright status of these elements, including reinterpretations, sequels, prequels, and spin-offs in a variety of media, including film, television series, and books.

Peter Pan the British Musical is based on the play from J.M. Barrie, adapted by Piers Chater-Robinson. It incorporates many of the main characters which children will know from, the movie Hook and Peter Pan. The musical was first staged in London’s West End and starred Ron Moody as Captain Hook and Nicola Stapleton as Peter Pan. It has played in different parts of the world with many box-office record breaking seasons and great reviews. The music score is delightful and has some catchy songs for the young and old.
