The 30-year-old Lonard has always done well on the Hyatt Regency resort course. He won in 2004 after sharing the 2002 title with Jarrod Moseley when darkness forced officials to stop play after the first hole of a playoff.

Lonard won the tournament once again for the third time in six starts at the Hyatt and in addition he finished a narrow runner up to Nick O’Hern in 2006. It was just his second start back after a two month break from tournament golf where he was desperate to get away from it all.

Lonard didn't touch a club for more than two months from September, and spent some time with his U.S. coach David Leadbetter. He had just one top-three finish in his 27 U.S. starts this year, and missed 12 cuts.

Lonard has missed all three of his cuts in 2008 and had just one round (of six) under par before today. Lonard's fantasy value is greater in longer formats, which suits his propensity to mix in Top 10s with MCs. Weekly players should consider yourself lucky if you guess right on the Aussie.

Lonard bogeyed the 18th just as Appleby birdied the 16th to close to within one shot. Lonard, warming up for a possible playoff, then had to watch Appleby attempt a tough five-metre putt for birdie on the last. It missed, and Lonard raised the Stonehaven Cup for the second time.

Lonard hit a solid drive at the 18th on Sunday and knocked his second shot to 18 feet. Clarke then gave the tournament away when his approach to the 18th missed badly to the left and found the thatch.
