Peter Graves Peter Graves has accomplished a mission nearly impossible in Hollywood-he has been married for over fifty years to the same woman. That woman's name is Joan Endress. Peter has made his name very solidly in television by virtue of his portrayal of project-leader Jim Phelps in Mission Impossible, but he has made a large mark in movies, too. For example, he was unforgettable in Stalag 17 (1954) playing Price, the German spy in a barracks of captured American sergeants.

Adventure writer John Weatherby, played by Peter Graves (Mission Impossible) is called in to investigate a series of brutal murders that has investigators confused. The clues are not clear and leave no clear trail. The tracks left at the murder site appear to be that of a wolf, or a man, or both!
Ten years later Mission Impossible put Peter Graves on the world map, so to speak. Millions of TV viewers came to know and respect this man, known in the series as Jim Phelps, who headed the commando operation/force. The show ran on CBS from 1967, with Graves coming on board in the second season and continued through the sixth and final season. He was the only player brought back for the remake in 1988 to 1990 on ABC.

In 1967, Graves was recruited by Desilu Studios to replace Steven Hill as the lead actor on Mission: Impossible. Graves played Jim Phelps, the sometimes gruff leader of the Impossible Missions Force or IMF, for the remaining six seasons of the series.
