Although a first-round draft choice of the Philadelphia Eagles in 1950, Grant postponed his NFL debut to play for the Minneapolis Lakers of the NBA. He played two years with the Lakers, who won the NBA title each year. In 1951, Bud turned to pro football with the Eagles. He played on defense as a rookie and then became the No. 2 pass receiver in the NFL with 56 catches in 1952.

Mr. Grant acts as the Broadcasting Arbitrator for Canada, an office held under the Canada Elections Act, with the approval of all of the political parties in the Canadian House of Commons. In this capacity, he supervised the allocation of paid and free broadcast time to the parties in the last five federal general elections.

After making 361 appearances for Celtic between 1982 and 1997, Grant signed for Norwich City for a fee of £200,000. Mike Walker, in his second stint as Norwich City manager, had previously tried to sign Grant soon after taking over from Dave Stringer at Carrow Road in 1992 - ... Celtic had been unwilling to let Grant leave, and Walker opted for Gary Megson as a midfielder enforcer.

Dr. Grant is survived by his wife, Cliona McManamon, and parents, Sydney and Christina Grant, his sister, Erin, brother, Shannon, grandmothers Amelia Grant and Agnes Wright, aunts Judith, Carol and Yvonne, and uncle Herbert. As well, he left an extended family of cousins and many friends across Canada, in the Fredericton area and in St. John's.
