Boalt Hall displayed some star power on May 6 when celebrity "alum" Peter Gallagher of The OC television series paid a visit to adoring members of the OC at Boalt club. Cheering wildly and sporting de rigueur orange T-shirts, dozens of law students took a breather from finals to greet the wavy-haired actor who plays Boalt-educated, former public defender Sandy Cohen on the hit show set in Orange County.

Peter Gallagher is really an amazing actor. He's most well known for his role as Sandy Cohen on television's "The O.C." but he really made his mark in film before landing this role.

Gallagher was the first person on The O.C. to be cast. Despite being portrayed as Jewish on the show, Gallagher is of Irish Catholic descent. He now hosts an annual award ceremony named "The Sandy Cohen Awards," or The Sandys, which in honor of his character now give a scholarship to a law school student at UC Berkeley who wants to become a public defender.

On April 5, 2007, Gallagher received the Light on the Hill award at Tufts University. The award is given to notable alumni from Tufts who have demonstrated ambition, achievement, and active citizenship. Gallagher sang with the Beelzebubs and gave a speech to a full crowd in Cohen Auditorium.
