Apart from the Secret World Tour, a special WoMAD tour with Peter Gabriel as the main act introduced world music to American audiences in 1993. The year after there was a festival tour with no special stage or stage props which climaxed in Peter’s performance at the concert celebrating the 25th anniversary of Woodstock.
Arduous and occasionally damp recording sessions at his rural English estate in 1981 and 1982, with co-producer/engineer David Lord, resulted in Gabriel's fourth LP release (Security), on which Gabriel took more production responsibility. It was one of the first commercial albums recorded entirely to digital tape (using a Sony mobile truck), and featured the early, extremely expensive Fairlight CMI sampling computer. Gabriel combined a variety of sampled and deconstructed sounds with world-beat percussion and other unusual instrumentation to create a radically new, emotionally charged soundscape. Furthermore, the sleeve art consisted of inscrutable, video-based imagery. Despite the album's peculiar sound, odd appearance, and often disturbing themes, it sold well and had a hit single in "Shock the Monkey", which ... became a groundbreaking music video.
Peter Gabriel's impact on the music world is unparalleled. Included here in this DVD collection are the often outlandish video clips that have accompanied Gabriel's music over the years - 18 visually stunning videos that capture a truly remarkable career.

It flopped without leaving a trace, but it awakened Peter’s appetite for solo projects. Interestingly enough, there is a demo tape from December 1975 which features Here Comes The Flood.
In the mid-'80s, Gabriel began doing film soundtracks. For the Birdy score, he wrote new material and adapted previous recordings. Although it's uncommon to hear sustained instrumental work from someone so known for vocal music, the score is audibly identifiable, and provides a fascinating glimpse into his adaptational thinking. A strongly affecting work, a major challenge met admirably with style and character.
Two programs featuring the remarkable music and personality of Peter Gabriel are featured here. In the LIVE section, a complement to 2003's GROWING UP LIVE, director Hamish Hamilton captures still more of Gabriel's legendary live shows, this time at smaller and more intimate European venues, rather than spectacular arenas. In UNWRAPPED, Anna Gabriel directs a segment exploring the origins and stories...See Full Description
