Peter Gabriel was one of the founders of On Demand Distribution (OD2), one of the first online music download services. Its technology is used by MSN Music UK and others, and has become the dominant music download technology platform for stores in Europe. OD2 was bought by US company Loudeye in June of 2004.
Peter Gabriel Vol.1 In 1977, two years after leaving Genesis, Peter Gabriel emerged as a solo artist with the first of three records entitled PETER GABRIEL. He was anxious for a change of musical direction, but after years of fronting one of the foremost art-rock outfits of the era, he hadn't exactly lost his taste for the dramatic. On his own, Gabriel was free to explore his own personal obsessions. Consequently the work is rife with images of isolation, paranoia, and the apocalypse. Aided by the London Symphony Orchestra and the cavernous production of Bob Ezrin (Kiss, Alice Cooper), the record reaches dramatic peaks of symphonic rock.

Peter Brian Gabriel was born on Febuary 13, 1950 in Surrey, a county that was to become rich in places important for Genesis. The other birth date of MAY 13, 1950 that one often finds in relevant publications is simply wrong. Peter’s dad who has a degree in electronics was well-known for his stunning inventions (he invented an interactive cable tv network back in the sixties). Peter’s mother was very musical, she had the perfect pitch on the piano. The family was upper middle class and owned a place in the country with an adjacent farm. This gave Peter much freedom during his childhood.
In 1980 Peter Gabriel collected a group of people together to found WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance). In a series of international festivals, starting in 1982, WOMAD has brought together traditional and modern music, arts and dance from every corner of the globe. In 1993 WOMAD joined Gabriel’s group of companies, based next to Real World Studios.
The second Peter Gabriel record scales emotional and artistic heights rarely achieved in popular music. So why Peter chose to end such a remarkable record with this pointless country-flavoured dirge is beyond the knowledge of anyone at Plausible Publications. Home Sweet Home, particularly when coupled with the equally grating Perspective, adds up to the most disappointing finale of any Peter Gabriel record.
