Peter Falk: Acting
built 634 days ago
Peter Falk, Lauren Holly, Timothy Hutton, Freddie Prinze Jr., and Tyne Daly star in this gritty crime drama. Falk plays the owner of a local bar who has taken bets for a Mafia gambling ring for years, watching out for his customers and never letting them get in too far over their heads. But that all changes when a mobster appoints his hot-headed, drug-abusing nephew (Prinze) to be his new collection agent. The young gangster takes a huge bet from an out-of-work alcoholic (Hutton) who has been forbidden from gambling in the past, and when he can't pay it off, he demands the man's wife (Holly) give him her body as payment. The barkeep knows his new partner has gone too far -- but what can he do to stop him without endangering the lives of his family? ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide.
Peter Falk and Alan Arkin play the soon-to-be-fathers-in-law in this crazy comedy. Falk is Vincent Ricardo the CIA agent, while Arkin is the mild-mannered dentist Sheldon Kornpett, whose children are getting married in 48 hours.

Peter Falk and Patrick McGoohan After graduating high school, Falk joined the United States Merchant Marine as a cook, before completing a Bachelor of Arts in political science at the New School for Social Research in 1951. He ... attended Hamilton College in Clinton, new York for three years. Gaining a Masters degree in public administration at Syracuse University in 1953, Falk applied unsuccessfully for a job with the CIA before becoming a management analyst with the Connecticut State Budget Bureau in Hartford.
[One] unexpected addition to the film resulted from Wenders' noticing that Falk frequently made sketches of extras between takes. Wenders asked him if it was all right to use that in the film, to which the actor replied: "Yeah, why not." This is the origin of the scenes in the bunker in which Falk sketches two extras: first the woman wearing a yellow star [shots 3055-3077] and subsequently the man who "has eyes like a raccoon" [shots 4025-4031].
