One such landmark is The Perth Mint, housed in an elegant, late 19th century, heritage building. This is a popular tourist attraction being Australia's oldest operating mint with a number of attractions such as the Gold Pour held in the original Melthouse.
Perth Mint is the nation's oldest operating mint and one of the oldest mints in the world still producing coins from its original premises. You can buy and sell gold, purchase jewellery and souvenirs, see the mint in operation, and watch molten gold being poured to create gold bars.

Perth has a moderate climate, with warm to hot summers and cool winters. King's Park, near downtown Perth, features a large area of natural Australian vegetation known as bushland. From September to November, during the Australian spring, the bushland blooms with thousands of species of wildflowers. Other attractions in Perth are the Art Gallery of Western Australia, containing a collection of European and Australian art; the Western Australian Museum, featuring natural science and historical exhibits; and Anglican and Roman Catholic cathedrals. Institutions of higher education in the Perth metropolitan area include the University of Western Australia (1911); Murdoch University (1973); Curtin University of Technology (1987); and Edith Cowan University (1991).

This has lead to a mining boom, which is having a great impact not only for Perth, but for the swan state with mining accounting for 25% of the states total output and 50% of the state's exports. In addition, Perth is so important to mining and energy projects that it controls about 80% or at least $A 11.7 B worth of Australia's total projects. As such, 25% of the world's largest mining companies have bases in Perth with Rio Tinto, Woodside and BHP Billiton just to name a few. The economic growth rate in 2006 was more than that of China's which is already at a staggering 10%.[26]
In the 19th century the linen industry in Perth continued. There was ... a dyeing industry in the 19th century. A bleaching industry also flourished in Perth in the 19th century. Whisky distilling was carried on in Perth on a small scale for centuries but in the 19th century it became a major industry. General Accident insurance company was formed in 1885. During the 19th century there was an important industry in Perth for most of the 19th century but it died out by the end of the period.
The Northbridge Tunnel on the Graham Farmer Freeway WA Youth Musicallows young musicians in Perth to gain performance opportunities by playing in a musical ensemble. The Western Australian Youth Orchestra is WA Youth Music's premier and flagship ensemble... the organisation offers several other ensembles including the WA Youth Symphonic Band and the WA Youth Chorale. Acceptance is granted to amateur players under the age of 25 years. Auditions are held in November of each year.
