The noble gases are located in Group VIII of the periodic table. Helium and neon are examples of noble gases. These elements are used to make lighted signs, refrigerants, and lasers. The noble gases are not reactive. This is because they have little tendency to gain or lose electrons.

Additional information from the physical laws of atoms can be incorporated into the periodic table and can greatly enhance its organizing capability. For example, configuration energy adds a third dimension to the periodic table. The configuration energy is defined in terms of the ionization energy (l), the energy required to remove an electron from an atom.

The periodic table is an arrangement of the elements by increasing atomic number. Since the electrons add to energy levels in a regular pattern, elements with similar chemical properties tend to repeat themselves with a set period. This allows the table to be constructed such that elements that are most alike in chemical properties are in the same column.

The periodic table of the chemical elements... called the Mendeleev periodic table, is a tabular display of the known chemical elements. First created by Dmitri Mendeleev, the elements are arranged by electron structure so that many chemical properties vary regularly across the table. Each element is listed by its atomic number and chemical symbol.

This is an all-purpose, interactive periodic table that would be useful for high-school chemistry classes. In addition to general information about the elements, it includes the following: states, energies, oxidation and electrons, appearance and characteristics, reactions, conductivity, abundances, and more.

This periodic table comes from the website of Prof Mokeur (www.profmokeur.ca) It features a nice use of color to delineate the element classes, as well as an attractive font. It includes oxidation numbers and electronegativity. Errors present in an earlier version have been corrected.
