Pentagon Flag Saved PHOTO After the attack on the Pentagon, bandsmen sent the flag to the Pentagon. During President Bush's visit to the impact site, 3rd Infantry soldiers and fire fighters unveiled the flag and draped it over the side of the building.
Information received to date regarding the effect on Torchmark of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon indicates that none of the Torchmark insurance subsidiaries expect unusual numbers of life or health insurance claims. Torchmark's insurance subsidiaries generally write high volumes of relatively lower face-amount life insurance, and most sell nationwide. This characteristic of Torchmark's life insurance business tends to minimize the financial effect of localized, rare occurrence disasters. Torchmark's Military Agency expects to receive life insurance claims from policyholders that were at the Pentagon; ... those claims are not expected to exceed $1 million. Health insurance policies written by Torchmark companies are primarily Medicare supplements sold nationwide to retirees, and an unusual number of claims are not expected from this event. Torchmark does not consider the events of September 11 to be subject to "acts of war" policy exclusions that may be in some policies issued by Torchmark companies.
General Dynamics Information Technology was initially awarded the Pentagon Renovation contract in August 1998. Following the attacks of September 11, 2001, General Dynamics was awarded an additional contract for the Pentagon Renovation in June 2002. Since that time, the company has received 100 percent of all available award fees during 19 evaluation periods.

Some 24-thousand people work in the Pentagon. Initial reports soon after the terrorist attack said a hijacked American Airlines jet ploughed into the military complex that was under construction. The Pentagon, the White House, and most other government buildings were evacuated, sending thousands of scared federal workers into Washington streets. The capital was in virtual gridlock, with people jamming the roads and police sirens wailing.
The Pentagon The plane that crashed into the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, hit a section that had recently been renovated and was still only partially occupied. Authorities say the death toll of 189 would have likely been much higher if the area had been fully occupied. The crash caused a gash on the west side of the Pentagon measuring 30 yards wide and 10 yards deep; 185,693 square feet were damaged and 37,161 square feet were destroyed. Three of the five Pentagon rings were damaged. It cost $501 million to repair the building; repairs were finished within a year of the attack.
