Pearl Harbor: War
built 217 days ago
Pearl Harbor is a third person flight shooter more in the arcade style as opposed to a realistic flight simulator. Players can select from either a USA or Japanese campaign and fly a number of missions during which they will earn ranks and medals for promotion, as well as additional aircraft based on destroyed enemy planes. The game starts out in comic book fashion with a series of drawn panels framing the very loose plot, which is basically you are an aviator at war.
The whole time this is happening, the audience anxiously waits for the bombing of Pearl Harbor. As military officials scrutinize coded messages and the Japanese carefully plan their assault on the Pacific Fleet's naval base, John Voight effectively plays a reluctant-to-enter-the-war FDR. The special effects are stunning - underwater shots of torpedoes zipping through the legs of drowning men are numbing. The bomb that lifts the USS Arizona out of the water for a terrifying moment before smashing into the sea is an image that is difficult to shake. However, special effects can just get you so far.

"Pearl Harbor" is a difficult movie to review. It is in no way a great movie, but it ... is far from bad. There is a lot to recommend, from the performances, to the two war sequences, to a climactic scene that is simply heartbreaking, but there are also a fair share of detractors. The film presses on for just over three hours with no clear destination or purpose, and the supposed-to-be cathartic final scenes are hampered by a needless,
USS Hopper (DDG 70), an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer homeported at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, participated in the successful “Sky Hunter” Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) test event off the coast of southern California Feb. 15. Using a recent upgrade to its Aegis weapons system, Hopper was tasked with detecting and tracking a Minuteman III Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., during the boost and initial ballistic portions of flight, and providing cueing data to SPAWAR (Space and Naval Warfare) Space Systems Center (SSC) in San Diego and the Joint National Test Center in Colorado Springs for analysis.
There were many charges of negligence against those responsible for Pearl Harbor's defense. A special commission appointed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt accused the army and navy commanders at Hawaii of dereliction of duty in a report on Jan. 24, 1942. Later army and navy investigations concluded that no valid grounds existed for court-martial. A congressional committee, formed in Sept., 1945, absolved the army and navy commanders in a formal report on July 16, 1946, but censured the War Dept. and the Dept. of the Navy.

Harry Elmer Barnes continued to investigate the attack on Pearl Harbor long after the publication of Perpetual War For Perpetual Peace. He not only conducted his own research, but gave warm encouragement to others, both people who had some "inside" knowledge of the events, as well as unbiased scholars who were not afraid to pursue avenues of inquiry that might lead to findings that were unpopular with the political and historical establishments.
