Paxil is ... associated with withdrawal symptoms that could occur when dosages are dramatically decreased or patients are discontinuing treatment. It is estimated that approximately four to ten percent of Paxil users will experience extreme adverse Paxil withdrawal symptoms, though others may experience more mild Paxil withdrawal symptoms. The onset of Paxil withdrawal symptoms usually occurs between one to three days following the discontinuation of treatment and can last for many months in more severe cases. A period of two to six weeks is the average time patients experience Paxil withdrawal symptoms. For some people, the symptoms of Paxil withdrawal are among the most horrifying experiences imaginable. The following are some of the more mild symptoms:
Paxil (paroxetine hydrochloride), a new antidepressant medication, was introduced into the United States in early 1993. It is a member of the SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) family (along with Zoloft and Prozac). These new medications are effective in alleviating the symptoms of major depression without causing some of the harmful side effects caused by the older tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs).

Thereafter, the FDA reported similar findings, and continues to explore connections between Paxil and an increased rate of suicide and suicide attempts. Reports of suicide and other significant problems led the FDA to recommend that Paxil not be used in young children and adolescents for the treatment of major depressive disorder.
