Simon at the Olympia, Paris during the shooting of You're the One in concert. Paul Simon is ... a major benefactor and one of the founders of the Children's Health Project and Children's Health Fund[7][8] which started by creating specially equipped "buses" to take medical care to children in medically underserved areas, urban and rural. Their first bus was in the impoverished South Bronx of New York City but they now operate in 12 states, including the Gulf Coast. It has expanded greatly, partnering with major hospitals, local public schools and medical schools and advocating policy for children's health and medical care.
For the next decade, Simon maintained keen interest in the politics of elections and their financing. In 1995, along with former governor William Stratton, a Republican, Simon led the newly-created Illinois Campaign Finance Task Force. Simon retired in early 1997 after serving 22 years in Congress. He intended to return to teaching at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois, and to head a public policy institute there.

Paul followed this success with a large-scale concert tour, featuring his South African band and Ladysmith Black Mombazo. This was a monumental task, given the many sanctions against South Africa at the time, when Apartheid was the status quo.

Paul Simon Long-awaited followup to Graceland in which Simon turns to the propulsive groove of South America for inspiration. Most of the drum tracks were recorded in Rio de Janeiro, with Simon overdubbing everything else later.
