Patrick Swayze: Roles
built 614 days ago
Patrick Swayze With a choreographer mother, Patrick Swayze (born August 18, 1952, in Houston) had an unconventional boyhood that included ballet classes. After a run in the musical "Grease," Swayze made his film debut in the roller-skating comedy Skatetown, U.S.A. (1979).

Swayze's subsequent film appearances throughout the 1990s were sporadic, and aside from the publicity surrounding his starring role as a wise 'n' feisty drag queen opposite Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo in To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, he remained out of the limelight.
Displaying an acting depth never before seen, Swayze stars in this oddly moving tale of a disenchanted doctor who finds real meaning from a poor man living on the streets of Calcutta. It’s a fairly significant leap for a guy who is known more for his pecs and flowing mane than he is for his acting chops. But director Roland Joffe (The Killing Fields) saw something he liked in the action star and took a chance. Either that or Swayze has a little debt to repay Satan when his time on Earth comes to an end.

Well, it's nice to see that Patrick "...told Gulf Today newspaper he badly wanted to play a sheik." Considering how he played a teen aged anti-Communist guerilla in that old movie, Red Dawn. Gues which role he really prefers!
"Grease" - Patrick played the lead role of Danny Zuko in the original Broadway production. It's the 1950's, era of the greasers, slick hair, hot cars. Danny, the ultra cool leader, falls for Sandy, miss squeaky-clean, the squarest girl in the world.

Swayze is up to a part that requires him merely to show his muscles and dexterity, but Gazzara is trapped in his hopelessly evil caricature, leaving Sam Elliott (in a too-limited role) to provide the film's only real charm. [More]
