Patrick Swayze: Point Break
built 614 days ago
How has it possibly taken 16 years for Point Break, the cult classic early ’90s surfing action flick starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, to make it to the New York stage? Let’s not curse the relatively slow screen-to-stage gestation period (10 years longer than Legally Blonde!) and just celebrate the fact that IT’S HERE! That’s right, Point Break Live!, which got its start in Seattle, runs from January 25 to February 25 at La Tea Theater downtown at 107 Suffolk Street on Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8pm.

POINT BREAK is a high-velocity thrill ride in which clean-cut FBI agent Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves) goes head to head with surfer renegade Bodhi (Patrick Swayze). Rookie Utah is assigned to go undercover to investigate a string of 28 bank robberies by a gang called the Ex-Presidents.

When he made it to New York to start his professional career... it was recurring knee problems from an old football injury that turned Swayze toward acting. The actor got his first big break playing Danny in the Broadway version of {+Grease}. His stage success led him to Hollywood, where he made his film debut portraying a thug in the amiably trashy Skatetown, U.S.A. (1979).
