Patrick Stewart: National Theatre
built 185 days ago
Patrick participated in several local drama groups in his youth. He quit school at fifteen to work as a reporter at a local paper but quit after the editor told him he was spending too much time at the theatre. He worked as a furniture salesman and saved his money for drama school. At seventeen he began studying at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. By 19 he'd lost most of his hair. His bald head would become a trademark.

At age 15, Stewart dropped out of school and increased his participation in local theatre. He acquired a job as a newspaper reporter, but after a year, his employer gave him an ultimatum to choose acting or journalism.[6] He quit the job. His brother tells the story that Stewart would attend rehearsals during work time and then invent the stories he reported.

EXCERPT:When he was alive, the U.S. government had no trouble finding a place for Patrick Stewart, never mind his unconventional beliefs. It inducted him into the Army National Guard, issued him dog tags giving his religion as "Wiccan," and deployed him to Afghanistan. He died there in 2005 when Taliban forces shot down his helicopter. It was only later that Uncle Sam had second thoughts.
