Patricia Neal, born January 20, 1926, is an academy award-winning American actress. She was born Patsy Louise Neal in Packard, Kentucky, and grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. She studied drama at Northwestern University before appearing on Broadway and winning a Tony Award for Another Part of the Forest. She made her film debut in John Loves Mary in 1949. She appeared in The Fountainhead with co-star Gary Cooper. She starred in many films including The Breaking Point, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Operation Pacific, A Face in the Crowd.

Born in the small town of Packard, Kentucky, on January 20, 1926, Patricia Neal always wanted to become an actress. After taking acting lessons from the age of twelve, she attended Northwestern University’s School of Speech from 1943-1945 before moving to New York City. There she met Lillian Hellman who signed her to act in Eugene O’Neill’s first Broadway show, "Another Part of the Forest," in 1946. After winning several awards for this role, Neal performed in other Broadway productions including "The Miracle Worker." Her first movie part was in "The Fountainhead" in 1948 and she subsequently acted in twenty-four movies including "Hud," in 1963 for which she won the Academy Award. She was nominated for an Oscar again in 1968 for "The Subject Was Roses." Among her recent movies was "An Unremarkable Life," in 1989.

Academy Award-winning actress Patricia Neal was raised in Knoxville, where she studied theatre and performed in various venues. In 1942, following her junior year of high school, Neal landed a summer stock position at Robert Porterfield's Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia. After high school graduation Neal entered Northwestern University but left to move to New York, where working as an understudy, she caught playwright Lillian Hellman's attention. Neal appeared in Hellman's The Little Foxes, and by 1947 she had signed a contract with Warner Brothers. Her first important film role was in King Vidor's screen adaptation of Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead (1949).
