Pascal (Language): Extended Pascal
built 607 days ago
A printed, still highly readable but more complete description of Extended Pascal, with its object extensions, is: Extended Pascal and Objects: A Practical Guide, by Tony Hetherington, 1996, Prospero Software Ltd. London. 59 pp. To request a printed copy, click on the link to Prospero Software.
Antionline Forums - Maximum Security for a Connected World People who use Pascal for serious programming fall into a fatal trap. Because the language is impotent, it must be extended. But each group extends Pascal in its own direction, to make it look like whatever language they really want. Extensions for separate compilation, FORTRAN-like COMMON, string data types, internal static variables, initialization, octal numbers, bit operators, etc., all add to the utility of the language for one group but destroy its portability to others.

In the HP Pascal documentation set, the term Pascal standard refers to these standards. Because HP Pascal supports most Extended Pascal standard features, it cannot compile all programs that comply with Extended Pascal.
In 1990, an extended Pascal standard was created as ISO/IEC 10206. In 1993 the ANSI standard was replaced by the ANSI organization with a "pointer" to the ISO 7185:1990 standard, effectively ending its status as a different standard.
FACILIS is a p-code compiler for an extended subset of Pascal. It is written in Turbo Pascal for the IBMPC. This compiler will be of interest especially to two groups of users: (1) students learning the Pascal language, before making a commitment to a commercial compiler; (2) compiler tinkerers who desire source code for modification or extension.
EFLIB is a free object-oriented programming tool for Pascal. EFLIB is an universal and complete tool that might replace all other small add-on units that you are currently using. EFLIB is extremely well-written and covers most of the programming topics you ever will deal with. EFLIB uses an object hierarchy that makes it simple to customize objects for your own needs. Extended prototype release is now available for download. EFLIB is aiming on becoming an open standard framework for every Pascal programmer.
