Partition Magic

As anyone who has spent much time in the forum here at PC911 or the Winmag Forum knows, Partition Magic is a must-have utility. Recently, PowerQuest released version 5, and once again the new version shows that PowerQuest listens to their customers. In a lot of ways, PM5 is very similar to PM4. The differences are small, but they are there.
Summarizing, Partition Magic 6.0 is a great and powerful program and it is highly recommended. It has oodles of useful functions not touched on here. The colored graphics are especially useful and provide volumes of information at a glance. Very nice. The online help leaves much to be desired. Also, since PM60 has just recently been announced, the help section of the web site at: http://www.powerquest.com/support/emsupport.html does not yet have a PM60 section.
Partition Magic has 'idiot proofed' partitioning and adding new operating systems. There is a Windows-style wizard which runs you through the steps of adding a new operating system, giving you default locations and sizes for primary partitions, and then applying the changes as with a batch file. It ... automatically handles details like the maximum fat partition size (2 GIGs), and extended logical partitioning.

This clever tool will search the registry and configuration files for paths that match drive letters. When it finds one it will switch it for the letter of the new partition. If you move your program files from c: to d:, for example, Drive Mapper should ensure that the applications keep on running. It's not perfect because applications sometimes store paths in strange places but it does the best job that it can.

Often Partition Magic 8 has to reboot to perform an operation. When it does, program XMNT2002 is the one that runs just before Windows to perform the partition related actions. If something gets screwed up then Windows tries to run this program at startup even though Partition Magic has no work to do. Thus, this error.
Example: Suppose Partition Magic is installed in a folder named Powerquest. You use the "first" 6 letters of the folder name, the ~ sign then the number 1. This ... must be for every sub-folder under the Powerquest folder as well. So the path will now look like: Powerq~1\Partit~1\Win9x
