Today's court proceedings were essentially a fact-finding mission for the judge and the City Attorney to understand why Paris Hilton was released form jail and placed on house arrest. According to ABC News, Judge Sauer had noted in a court document that Paris Hilton was not allowed to substitute a lesser punishment for the jail time she had been sentenced to. "No work furlough. No work release. No electronic monitoring," was the note from Judge Sauer. The Sheriff's Department claimed they had filed a motion with Sauer to place Paris Hilton under house arrest, though according to TMZ, the judge said he didn't receive such a motion, stating, "There's no way I would have approved it even if I got the motion."

Paris Hilton has been arrested by the police and sentenced to 45 days in jail from a ruling by the Court system. Word is she showed up 10 minutes late, which made the judge mad. He threw the book at her for the arrest getting a DUI / DWI when her license was already suspended on record. Paris is appealing the decision trying to stay out of jail. The judge then later shortend her sentence to 23 days.

The biggest news of the weekend/year/century (depending on just how addicted you are to celebrity gossip) was that Paris Hilton is headed to the slammer. Paris was sentenced to 45 days at a women's facility in Lynwood, CA, but the exact amount of time she'll end up serving remains to be seen, as area jails are severely overcrowded.

Paris Hilton will be taken directly to the Lynwood jail from the courthouse. She will be given credit for at least the five days already served. Kathy Hilton, the mother of Paris Hilton, told TMZ that, "I'm paralyzed right now."
