Papillon Papillon is the fascinating true story about Henri Charriere who was sent to the infamous prison colony in French Guinea for a murder he didn’t commit. The book reads extremely well and covers Henri’s trial in France, the trip to the prison colony and his time in the colony. During his time at the prison colony Henri serves two stretches in solitary confinement and is eventually put onto Devils Island the supposable inescapable island were he eventually makes his successful escape for freedom. During his time he ... makes several escape attempts with varying degrees of success and failure, one in which he is returned to the colony after escaping for a considerable length of time.

Throughout Europe, the dainty little Papillon was a favourite of ladies of the court, especially in France. It is written that Marie Antoinette carried her pet Papillon with her to the guillotine. The Papillon ... appeared regularly in paintings featuring the 17th and 18th century Royal children and ladies at court done by such Old Masters as Rubens, Titian and Van Dyck.

Papillon mixes have all of the good traits of a purebred, often without the genetic health issues due to inbreeding. Best of all, when you adopt a Papillon mix, you adopt a one-of-a-kind companion. Nobody else will have a "Papiyorkie" or a "Pappompoodle" quite like yours!

I guess he is motived partly by pity, but ... by gratitude over Dega's initial willingness to try to secure Papillon a cushy job, and also, I guess, by the notion that Dega and his money might come in useful later on. Dega in the meantime realizes he won't survive long at hard labor, so he tells Papillon that he would also like to escape now. While at the work camp, Dega and Papillon also meet Clusiot (Woodrow Parfrey), another con who dreams of escape, but who also seems to have a knack for surviving in the jungle. One day a butterfly trader arrives at the work camp. He is searching for rare butterflies whose wings are used to make a special ink used in American currency.
Dustin Hoffman, Steve McQueen A grim, authentically brutal film about the escape of notorious French felon Henri "Papillon" Charriere (Steve McQueen) from the supposedly inescapable prison fortress of Devil's Island. The story begins in the streets of Marseilles in the 1930s, with French soldiers escorting a large group of prisoners to the docks. Among them are McQueen, a convicted murderer, and Hoffman, a big-time stock swindler who still has a lot of money hidden. read more

This time, Papillon is sent to Devil's Island rather than being returned to either the administrative compound or work camps. Devil's Island is an isolated, wind-swept rock of the coast guarded mostly by imposing cliffs and vicious tides. In the movie, it looks a little like a tropical version of Cornwall. The guards on the island have a "live and let live" philosophy. Since escape is impossible, they leave the prisoners alone as much as possible. Papillon is assigned to an empty hut on the island.
