Papa Roach: Jacoby Shaddix
built 148 days ago
Papa Roach started writing Getting Away With Murder on the road last year, and finished when they got back to their homes in Sacramento, California. By the time they started recording demos, they had over 30 complete songs to work from. And when they began pre-production with producer Howard Benson (P.O.D., Blindside, Hoobastank) they had 12 songs chosen and pretty fully arranged. "We knew where we wanted to go," Shaddix says. "It was just a matter of honing it and getting it perfect."

Papa Roach stopped by the station on Tuesday, on the way to Lupo’s for WBRU’s 38th Birthday Month concert, for an interview and acoustic session. Along with live acoustic performances of “Forever” and “Time is Running Out,” they talked about their affinity for a raw sound that stole the show from Hinder when they toured with them earlier this year and that fans could surely expect from their performance that night. They ... shared ghost stories from the Paramour Mansion in Los Angeles, where they recorded their most recent album, The Paramour Sessions, and mentioned their recent acoustic performance in their hometown in support of breast cancer research. For more about their changing music style, what it’s like to be a rock star and a parent, and lead singer Jacoby Shaddix’s new show Scarred on MTV, listen to the full podcast below!

For now, Shaddix said Papa Roach will stay on the road to promote its latest album, "The Paramour Sessions." The group is currently headlining in North America and will stay on these shores in the spring, after taking a break in March to build its own studio back in Sacramento. It's planning a summer swing through Europe and a late-summer jaunt back in the States, too.

Papa Roach's Jacoby Shaddix has a habit of scribbling out lyrics on napkins, on hotel scratch pads, even on airplane tickets. He stores this collection of potential lyrics in a bag, returning to the ink-covered fragments when it's time to compose a new album.
