If one were to believe the Greek historian Plutarch (in "The Obsolescence of Oracles" (Moralia, Book 5:17)), Pan is the only Greek god who is dead. During the reign of Tiberius (A.D. 14-37), the news of Pan's death came to one Thamus, a sailor on his way to Italy by way of the island of Paxi. A divine voice hailed him across the salt water, "Thamus, are you there? When you reach Palodes,[8] take care to proclaim that the great god Pan is dead." Which Thamus did, and the news was greeted from shore with groans and laments.

The closest living relatives to humans, chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) are the most familiar of the apes because of their prevalence in zoos, their use in movies, and their extraordinary personalities. They have the most extensive geographic range of any of the apes, inhabiting the rain forests of more than a dozen countries of western and central equatorial Africa.

Once Pan had the audacity to compare his music with that of Apollo, and to challenge Apollo, the god of the lyre, to a trial of skill. Tmolus, the mountain-god, was chosen to umpire. Pan blew on his pipes, and with his rustic melody gave great satisfaction to himself and his faithful follower, Midas, who happened to be present. Then Apollo struck the strings of his lyre. Tmolus at once awarded the victory to Apollo, and all but Midas agreed with the judgment. He dissented, and questioned the justice of the award.

The board of trustees of the Pan American Health and Education Foundation welcome Mr. Edward Kadunc as the new executive director. He comes to the foundation with 30 years of experience in international development, largely in Latin America. He follows Ms. Jess Gersky who is retiring at the end of this year.

The Gorrin family found a receptive audience for the authentic, European influence in baked goods, and soon the Don Pan story began. For years, the family produced a variety of fine baked goods in their South American communities, and dreamed of expanding the business into North America.

The Pan-Afrikan Student Union was first known as the Black Student Union. The Black Student Union was initiated in the Spring of 1968-steming from the One Day in May Visit, a day long event in response to Martin Luther King Jr.’s death and the riots taking place across U.S. (specifically in Minneapolis). On this day, Augsburg came into direct contact with racism. Classes were cancelled. Faculty, community leaders, staff and students came together to listen, lead, and discuss issues affecting the community. Community leaders lead the way in bringing key issues to Augsburg’s attention.
