Farrell, after whom a street in Palm Springs is named, would later be elected mayor. Farrell Drive is built on the path of an old narrow-gauge railroad right-of-way originally built to serve the proposed town of Palmdale. The town was never built and the railroad was abandoned after a few short years of operation. The ties were used to build one of the area's earliest residences and the Cornelia White House still stands today in downtown Palm Springs.

Palm Springs Street Fair, known locally as "Village Fest" is held year-round each Thursday from 6-10 p.m. along Palm Springs main street, called Palm Canyon Drive. Palm Canyon Drive closes to vehicle traffic for the Thursday night Palm Springs VillageFest, a bustling street fair featuring entertainers, local artists, music, foods, arts, crafts, fresh flowers, produce and vendor carts and a certified farmer's market. It's a great treat for out-of-town guests to taste the local flavor (literally and figuratively) feel the local vibe of Palm Springs, and see the sights and sounds of downtown.

The Palm Springs Art Museum presents traveling art exhibitions plus a variety of entertainment in its Annenberg Theater. The Agua Caliente band of Cahuilla Indians is located downtown with the Spa Resort Hotel and Casino. There are other casinos in the Coachella Valley as well, notably in the cities of Rancho Mirage, Indio, Coachella and Cabazon.
