Palindrome

Palindrome-ness is a unary relation! There is no such thing as the "palindrome" of a word or phrase—I prefer the term "reversal." "Stressed" and "desserts" are reversals of each other, and neither one is a palindrome. "Stressed desserts" is a palindrome. It follows that every palindrome is a reversal of itself, and conjoined reversals always form a palindrome.

> > A Palindrome is a word which reads the same both backwords and fowards. One way to check whether a word is a palindrome is to take each letter of the word one at a time and to place them onto both a stack and a queue. The letters are then read back from these structures and, if all letters match, the word is a palindrome.e.g tot.

This palindrome is remarkable for the fact that it ... reproduces itself if one forms a word from the first letters, then the second letters and so forth. Hence it can be arranged into a word square that reads in eight different ways: horizontally or vertically from top left to bottom right; horizontally or vertically from bottom right to top left; horizontally or vertically from top right to bottom left; and horizonally or vertically from bottom left to top right.

Composer Dan Hosken's recent work with Palindrome includes "Talking Bodies" and "A Human Conversation", which came in second place at the Monaco Dance Forum competition. He ... composed "Das Oklo Phänomen" (2007) which is a piece about natural catastrophes and the human psyche.

It is not clear who was the first to observe the following phenomenon: Palindromes can be formed from almost any number that is not a palindrome by adding the original number to its reverse form. For example, 47 is not a palindrome. If you add 47 + 74 (the reverse of the original number), you get 121, which is a palindrome.
