In order to provide for battery conservation, all MBS pagers are grouped into one of 100 groups based on the first two digits of the pager address. When a pager is fully powered, it looks for its group number to be transmitted. Once found, it looks for its unique four-digit address within that group. The paging terminal must batch all pages according to its group number. When there are no more pages for a specific group, the pager powers down for 32.707 seconds. During this battery-conservation period, the receiver will not detect pages.

If you have an alphanumeric pager and want Datacast programmed on it, you can do so by bringing your pager to the Pager Warehouse located in Dykes Library. The Pager Warehouse will program alphanumeric pagers at no charge.

PageR Enterprise (PageR) is the automatic server, device and event monitor that watches anything across your network to immediately notify remote IT staff and managers when important events occur. PageR runs on Windows NT/2K/XP/2K3 to monitor servers, logfiles, services, TCP/IP, SNMP, disks, programs, web pages/links, devices, bandwidth, power and more across Windows NT/2K/XP/2K3, Novell NetWare, UNIX (All), OpenVMS, HP3000, RS6000, AS/400, IBM, Linux and others. When events occur or thresholds are passed, PageR automatically sends out event status information through a modem or network connection to a mobile phone, pager, PDA, email, IM, logfile, web page, console station, audio alert, more. Alert notifications easily communicate current event status. PageR can start applications or run VB and JScript scripts/commands as an automatic response to an object going in or out of an alarm state.

The PAGER system provides estimates of the number of people and the names of cities exposed to severe shaking following significant earthquakes worldwide. Links to PAGER results for earthquakes occurring within the last seven days are contained in the map and table below. The earthquakes are color coded by the maximum Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) estimated to have been experienced by at least 1000 people (an MMI value of corresponds to not felt). Information on the extent of shaking will be uncertain in the minutes and hours following an earthquake and typically improves as additional sensor data and reported intensities are aquired and incorporated into models of the earthquake's source. Users should always seek the most current PAGER version for any earthquake. PAGER does not directly consider secondary effects such as landslides and tsunami.
