Picasso's Guernica in Madrid's Reina Sofia Museum Picasso spent the four years from 1900 between Paris and Barcelona. He painted pictures of the bohemian life in Paris, and was most heavily influenced by the works of Degas, and Toulouse-Latrec. His Blue Room, painted in 1901, is the best example of this. It is now on display in the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C. Because various shades of blue dominated his rather melancholic paintings from 1901 until 1904 it has become known as his Blue Period.
The Old Guitar Player painting by Picasso shows how he uses color and lines to show how he is feeling. The painting has a lot of blue in the background. He ... used a lot of blue because he was showing he was sad. Picasso put some lines on the man's face to make him look sad. His head is down playing the guitar sadly, lonely and he looks like he is starving to death. Probably that is why he is sad.
Picasso ... created sculpture and prints throughout his long career, and made numerous important contributions to both media. He periodically worked in ceramics, and designed sets, curtains, and interiors for the theater.
Picasso became interested in monumental classical figures after a trip to Italy in 1917. One of his major themes from this period is the artist in his studio—a sculptor or painter inspired by the nude female model.
