Ovulation: Ovulation Test
built 633 days ago
After Ovulation (low chance of pregnancy): After ovulation, there is a marked change in mucous appearance. It returns to the sticky stage (does not stretch during finger test) and there is again a feeling of dryness around the vulva.

Ovulation disorders accompanied by elevated FSH levels on day three are one indication of diminished ovarian or premature ovarian failure. The clomiphene citrate challenge test is ... useful in making the diagnosis. Some clinics do not offer IVF to patients with diminished ovarian reserve because of reduced success rates. Dr. Muasher counsels each couple individually and helps them make an informed decision.

Ovulation detection kits measure the surge in leutinizing hormone that occurs immediately prior to ovulation. This method is more accurate and less troublesome; ... it is more expensive. Ovarian function is assessed using measurements of FSH, LH, estradiol, and other hormones. An elevated FSH level on day 3 is one indicator of impending ovarian failure, and the menopause. The clomiphene citrate challenge test (CCCT; see specialists discussions) is often used to determine ovarian function and predict the success of procedures such as IVF.
The use of tamoxifen (TMX), another SERM, for ovulation induction has been the subject of clinical investigation since the early 1970s. A recent prospective randomized controlled trial compared the efficacy of TMX with Clomid in anovulatory women. The overall rates of ovulation and pregnancy were similar in both groups. Other studies have suggested that TMX may be superior to Clomid in that there does not appear to have an adverse impact on the endometrium. TMX has been shown to be effective in the treatment of ovulation induction even when Clomid has failed, but has yet to be tested for superovulation.
Right around ovulation (high chance of pregnancy): At this stage, mucous resembles egg whites. It is the thinnest, clearest and most abundant at this point in the cycle. Finger testing will allow the mucous to stretch quite a ways (several centimeters) before it breaks (if it breaks at all). ) The amount of this thin mucous will steadily increase until she experiences her 'mucous peak'. This is the last day of this period where the chance of conception is high. It is closely tied to ovulation.

Pelvic ultrasound looking at the ovaries is considered the gold standard in ovulation prediction in a research setting but obviously in a practical application of a woman trying to conceive, ultrasound is not used. Urinary LH testing has been shown to have a 100% correlation with ultrasound as far as predicting the timing of ovulation (3). In that same study, they looked at cervical mucous changes, basal body temperature (BBT) charts and salivary ferning. Cervical mucous changes only had a correlation of 48%, salivary ferning correlated 37% and BBT has a 30% correlation.
