Ovulation: Cycles
built 634 days ago
Ovulation usually takes place 14 days after the beginning of your menstrual cycle. The time of ovulation within the menstrual cycle is determined by the luteal phase, which is usually 12 to 16 days long. You can calculate the time of ovulation within your cycle by subtracting the length of your luteal phase from the length of your cycle. For example, if your cycle is 28 days long and your luteal phase is 12 days long, the ovulation will occur on day 16 of your cycle (28-12=16). The exact time of ovulation may vary within your cycle, because ovulation can be delayed by a number of factors such as stress, illness, diet, or increased physical activity.

Just after ovulation, there should be a rise of approximately 0.4-0.6 degrees Fahrenheit (about 0.2 degrees Celsius). The day of ovulation there will be a slight rise. The following two days will climb progressively higher. The rise on the day of ovulation is not distinguishable from the normal ups and downs in the entire pre-ovulatory phase. It is only recognized in retrospect when it forms an upward line with the two days afterward. The post-ovulatory tempertures remain at this new, higher level, until menses when they drop and start the cycle over again.

Basal body temperature is the temperature upon waking up. To record an accurate BBT measurment, one's temperature should be recorded using a BBT thermometer upon waking and before getting out of bed. The temperature measurements are plotted on a graph according to the day of the menstrual cycle counting the first day of menstruation as cycle day 1.
The Ovascan is a rugged, rechargeable battery-operated electronic instument used to detect and confirm ovulation in cows, mares, miniature mares, and other mammal species. [One] sign of ovulation and even pre-ovulation is found in monitoring basal body temperature. Basically, you roll over in the morning, turn off the alarm and reach for the thermometer. By lying still for the next couple minutes (until the electronic thermometer beep sounds) you can track changes in the cycle by this "base line" temperature. Thus, it gets it name basal body temperature.
The ovulation cycle is dependent upon signals sent by your body. These signals are sent in the form of changing hormone levels; as your hormone levels increase and decrease, your body responds by triggering different phases of your menstrual cycle. Ovulation is dependent on signals sent from three main parts of your body:
