Osama Bin Laden: North America
built 237 days ago
On November 24, 2002, Osama bin Laden wrote a letter to the American people explaining the reasons for his War on America. His list of grievances included the American business and military presence in the Middle East, but he ... wrote: "The creation and continuation of Israel is one of the greatest crimes, and you are the leader of the criminals. The creation of Israel is a crime that must be erased. You support the Jews."
Inside story of the hunt for Bin Laden - For the Americans, the March operation was yet another bitter lesson in the difficulty of tracking down Bin Laden. With the US election nearing and mounting concerns about Washington's second great military project - Iraq - George Bush more than ever needs the incalculable political boost that Bin Laden's capture would bring. - TVNL Comment: Mark this down, Bin Laden will be captured or lkilled during the weeks preceeding the 2004 election. This will be a strategic maneuver to boost Bush’s popularity prior to the election.

Kathy Gannon reported from Islamabad that the Taliban is unlikely to turn Osama bin Laden over to the United States for trial, without certain conditions. One of them: international recognition of the Taliban as the governing body of Afghanistan. Jerald Post described Osama bin Laden's upbringing, shedding light on his aesthetic practices and powerful rhetoric, both of which inspire his growing number of followers. The program ended with a press conference in which President Bush thanked American's for coming together in the face of last week's tragedy, and urged them to embrace a spirit of renewal and hope.
Bin Laden is among the 10 most wanted men in the United States for masterminding twin U.S. Embassy bombings in East Africa in August 1998. He is a prime suspect in organizing or at least inspiring the bombing of the USS Cole on Oct. 12, which killed 17 American sailors.
Bin Laden's war against the U.S. would take the form of a prolonged terrorist campaign. In 1989, the same year that the Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan, bin Laden founded his international terrorist organization, Al Qaeda (The Base) to train fighters for the global jihad against America.

Bin Laden's followers, who support a radical fundamentalist brand of Islam, remain devoted to their leader and continue to heed his call for a holy war. Ever wary of the price America has put on his head, he has reportedly chosen a successor: Muhammad Atef, an Egyptian Muslim who married bin Laden's daughter in January 2001.
