DETROIT, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The DTE Energy Foundation today announced it is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations for its 2008 Achieving Excellence Awards. With up to $400,000 in awards, the program is Michigan's largest corporate grant competition for nonprofit organizations. Grants ranging from $25,000 to $100,000 will be presented in five categories: innovation, merger, leadership, collaboration and sustainability.

The grants were awarded to schools, universities, nonprofit organizations and county conservation districts to create and develop projects that will help increase environmental literacy among Pennsylvanians. The projects range from creative, hands-on lessons for students-to-teacher training programs to ecological education for adults. Topics include watersheds, wetlands, Pennsylvania's ecosystems, and renewable and nonrenewable resources.

Through an annual evaluation and assessment process, TNCPE recognizes organizations that have achieved the highest standards of excellence in their operations and results. The program uses the Criteria for Performance Excellence established by the Baldrige National Quality Program as the evaluation tool.
