As far as tactical action games go, Operation Flashpoint has been one of the most heralded in recent years. It�s no surprise a sequel was in the works, and at E3 Codemasters is planning to reveal the first details on Operation Flashpoint 2. Other than it will be released on the PC sometime in 2004, Gaming Age has no further details.

Operation Flashpoint: Resistance casts the player as Victor Troska, an experienced ex-Special Forces soldier. Having turned his back on his military past, Troska has settled into a respectable civilian life on the island of Nogova, a short distance from the original game’s three islands. However, his situation changes when the Soviet force invades the island group and destroys Troska's idyllic dreams of a peaceful retirement. Reluctant at first to return to a conflict situation, he is forced to participate in, and then lead, the ramshackle Resistance effort, which grows up in response to the Soviet occupation of the island.

The multiplayer functions in the original Operation Flashpoint have been significantly improved in the expansion, bringing many hours of potential gameplay back to the original game. On the other hand, the relatively linear nature of the single-player campaign make that portion less replayable than either of the other campaigns. A built-in editor means that tons of additional missions (and a few campaigns) are available from fans, but that is true even without the expansion.

Additionally, a prequel campaign titled Resistance, set years before Operation Flashpoint?s Cold War Crisis, has been added. Resistance creates an additional 100km2 island and casts the player as Victor Troska, an experienced ex-Special Forces soldier forced to lead the ramshackle Resistance effort against the Soviets before the invasion of the Malden Islands.
