The online shopping market has been very volatile since its high point in 1999. Many online merchants have come and gone, depending on how they faired in the Dot Com Crash. Traditional brick-and-mortar merchants have been able to develop a strong Internet presence. In the past, there were few safeguards in place to protect online shopping purchases, lots of sites did not have privacy policies, navigation was tedious, and many were nothing more than online brochures.
