The Lake Course at The Olympic Club is an 18-hole regulation length golf course in Daly City, California. This medium-length layout plays quite long from the back tees. Also, the overall difficulty level of this course is very high and will challenge even the best golfers. There are 2 other courses at this same golf club, the Cliffs Course, and the Ocean Course. The Olympic Club is one of the few clubs that reimburses team members for round-trip airfair and per diem expenses at team-designated national events. Incidentally, roughwater swimming and water polo are completely separate sports with their own budgets, commissioners and events. Of course, many pool swimmers ... participate in open water events, and, in fact, the club hosts the annual Trans-Tahoe Relay, a relay swimming race across lake Tahoe. The club's roughwater team members have also performed exceptionally well every year at the Lanai-Maui Channel swim relay and the Waikiki Rough Water Swim.

Olympic Club officials first met with USGA organizers in November 2005 to discuss their vision of the two courses and Finlen and his crew began shaping the fairways and rough in the spring of last year. Meanwhile, the pro shop has stocked its shelves with U.S. Amateur merchandise and researched previous tournaments in an effort to figure out what they need and how many fans to expect on the course.

The Olympic Club is historically the home of the underdog. Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson all had the U.S. Open title in their grasp at Olympic, and then it was snatched away. Jack Fleck, Billy Casper and Scott Simpson ended up the winners, each beating a legend.

The Olympic Club was able to host the 2007 championship to assist with scheduling considerations in North Carolina. In 2007, the U.S. Women's Open will be contested at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C., in late June-early July.
