According to the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics' 2004-05 Occupational Outlook Handbook, overall employment of counselors is expected to grow faster than the average - as much as 35% -- for all occupations through the year 2012. The need for licensed professional counselors in the country will continue to swell as people become more comfortable seeking professional help for a variety of health, personal and family problems. Employers ... are increasingly offering employee assistance programs that provide mental health and alcohol and drug abuse services. More people are expected to use these services as society focuses on ways of developing mental well-being, such as controlling stress associated with job and family responsibilities.
