Oberon: Oberon System
built 634 days ago
Oberon is the successor of the popular Pascal and Modula-2 family of programming languages. It was specifically designed for systems programming, and was used to create the Oberon system in cooperation with J. Gutknecht. A few years later, the Oberon language was extended with additional object-oriented features to result in the programming language Oberon-2. This is the version included in most of the Oberon distributions."

Oberon is a procedural, block-structured language with many object-oriented features. It was designed for computer science education, but is ... suitable for general-purpose application programming. Oberon has a Pascal-like syntax, but its semantics are richer than Pascal's. An Oberon system consists of the Oberon language compiler along with a comprehensive operating environment.

After attending graduate school at Washington University in St. Louis, Oberon went on to shape the Church according to his vision of religion as a connective system that joins one with time and space through the oneness of all things. The Church of All Worlds filed for incorporation in 1967 and was formally chartered in 1968. The CAW received its 501(c)(3) exemption from the IRS on June 18, 1970, becoming the first Pagan church to do so.

The Oberon System was well ahead of its time, anticipating many developments in software that most of the rest of the world is beginning to address only now. It is to be hoped that future researchers study Oberon closely, because in many instances, they will find inspirations that will prevent them from having to re-invent a wheel here or there. And just like a wheel is superior to more complex alternatives, Oberon’s design contains many simple and elegant solutions that are unlikely to ever be surpassed, at any level of complexity.

Oberon is yet another language by Niklaus Wirth which was developed as part of the Oberon system, a complete operating system environment. The Oberon language is a successor to Modula-2 and Pascal and incorporates record extensions to provide object-oriented programming support.

Oberon Script is a scripting language and runtime system for building interactive Web Client applications. It is based on the Oberon programming language and consists of a compiler that translates Oberon Script at load-time into JavaScript code, and a small runtime system that detects and compiles script sections written in Oberon Script.
